GRENDIZER ARTBOOK (1998-1999)

How could I work on books dealing with my childhood's heroes without making one, a complete one qui plus est, on this legendary series that Grendizer was in France. It took nine full months to make all the drawings and write the 95% of texts of this artbook, which is one of the most complete works (fan art and official books taken into account) on the big horned robot... Being so ecstatic in my working on this book, I couldn't dare to finish it without proposing to my old friend Arnaud to write a few of the best series episodes. Altogether, it amounts to 250 pages full of character design, mecha design, summarized and illustrated episodes, about forty color posters, feature on the world of Grendizer and his Mazinger brothers, on the movies dragged from the series, character designers, openings and endings, all weapons of this giant robot... A quite complete book !

This book has been handed over to miscellaneous people having worked de près ou de loin on the TV series in Japan or in France :

- Mrs KOMATSUBARA : during her trip to France for the CARTOONIST festival, I had the pleasure to pay homage to the initial series character designer - which had then passed away - by giving personally the book to her widow and her translator. (2002)

- Carlo LEVY : following the publication of Grendizer mangas by Dynamic, I sent the book to the manager, who was very impressed by its quality and its exactitude. Talks about its possible edition took place. (2001)

- Shingo ARAKI : during his coming to CARTOONIST 2001, I've been able to get his Japanese address in order to share our artistic point of view. I took the opportunity to send this book to him along with all my thanks for his work on this series. (2003)

- Bruno-René HUCHEZ : one of the monstres sacrés of Japanese animation in France, whom we owe a lot of superb series on our TV screens. He too showed his interest in the book and talks about the book edition have taken place with the members of RCP, who were for the occasion the ambassadors of the book auprès de GO NAGAI. (2005)
